David Neil Thurston, 68, passed away on Monday, May 21, 2018 at his home in Rigby, Idaho after a courageous year long battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born on July 5, 1949 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Adrian Kenneth and Marie Berg Thurston.
He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1967. He began attending Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. A short time later he married Rita A. Brower on Aug. 29, 1970 in Pocatello, Idaho and was married to her for 21 years. They divorced in 1991.
He worked for FMC and later Simplot in Pocatello, Idaho. He then relocated to Boise, Idaho in 1995 and began working for Micron Electronics in Nampa, Idaho. He then accepted employment with Impac Services and continued working there until 2014.
David married Maureen Grover on December 27, 1996 in the Boise, Idaho Temple. They made their home in Meridian, Idaho until March 2006. They both enjoyed living in Eastern Idaho and decided to move to Rigby, Idaho in the spring of that year.
David loved his family very much. He always made sure to offer support to those that he loved. He was a generous and wonderful father and grandfather. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and watching almost any sporting event.
David was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a diligent servant to any calling or assignment he was given. He most recently enjoyed serving on the auditing committee for his Stake, serving in a university stake for the young married couples at BYU-Idaho and also serving as a family history consultant while participating in Italian Indexing.
Survivors include his wife, Maureen, of Archer, Idaho; two daughters, Tonya Dean (Charles) of Green Bay, WI, and Kimberly Porter of Meridian, Idaho; his mother, Marie Berg Thurston; eight grandchildren, Whitney Dean and Jessica Dean both of Provo, Utah; Sarah Taylor (Mason) of Rexburg, Idaho; Matthew Dean of Green Bay, WI, Mason Porter, Talmage Porter, Alexis Porter and Jared Porter all of Meridian, Idaho.
He is also survived by four stepchildren: Angie Grover, Justin Grover (Emily) both of Rexburg, Stephanie Grover of Swan Valley, Idaho, Cameron Grover of Rigby, Idaho. As well as 10 step grandchildren; Bailey Harris and Teigen Harris, both of Rexburg, Idaho, Dawson Grover (Jaycee) of Rigby, Idaho, Kaylie Grover of Rexburg, Idaho. Traason Pruett and Kambree Pruett, both of Swan Valley, Idaho. Bryce Bogan, Avery Jorgensen, Paityn Jorgensen, and Brynn Jorgensen, all of Rexburg, Idaho.
He has four brothers, K, Eugene Thurston of Boise, Idaho (Lila), Dennis Thurston of Aberdeen (Karen), Robert Thurston of Twin Falls, Idaho (Margie), and Russell Thurston of Sugar City, Idaho (Arlene) and two sisters, Carolyn McCartney of Orem, Utah (Charles) and Kay Pierce of Orem (Lee). He was preceded in death by his father, Adrian Kenneth Thurston and a nephew, Jeffrey Eugene Thurston.
