David Lee Weiss

January 18, 1933 — July 9, 2010

David Lee Weiss, beloved father, grandfather and friend has left us on July 9, 2010 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center after fighting a sudden illness. David was born January 18, 1933 to Alfred and Monetta (Bea) Weiss in Apache Oklahoma. At the young age of 12 he lost his father. His uncle Herman Weiss took him in and raised him until he joined the Marine Corps at the age of 16. He served as a drill sergeant and also did the maximum tours during the Korean War. Those who knew our father knew the drill sergeant never left any of his actions. After honorably discharged from the military he worked in several places but fell in love with Idaho, where he could fish and hunt. Our Dad met our Mother Kerry and they married October 13, 1979. With this union the three of us came into his life, Andina Stang of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Loni Sue Weiss, of Boise, Idaho, and Ronnie Lee Weiss of Rigby, Idaho. Our father worked for HK Contractors for 37 years, building roads from Rigby to almost every highway from Montana to Wyoming. He loved fishing almost as much as he loved building roads. His favorite spot was Cache Bar on the Salmon River where we grew up learning how to catch a steelhead. He wanted us girls to love fishing as much as he did. During the summer he also loved to golf at Jefferson Hills. Our father was a stern man but would give you the shirt off his back. He will be missed. He is survived by his wife, Kerry, daughters, Andina Stang, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Loni Sue (Robin) Weiss, of Boise, Idaho, Ronnie Lee (Monte Brown), of Rigby, Idaho and seven grandkids, Thomas, Jayden, Keagen, Ian, Kayde, Ella, and Porter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved Uncle Herman, his loyal dogs Lady and Peaches. Celebration of our father’s life will be at Dolly’s Subway on Wednesday, July 14th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Cremation will take place and his resting place will be on the middle fork of the Salmon River. We love you Daddy. In lieu of flowers we ask a donation in our fathers name to the Korean Veterans Fund or the Humane Society of Upper Valley.
