DEAN W. HAMMON, age 77 of Menan, died Friday, May 13, 2005 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Dean was born October 5, 1927 at Ammon, Idaho the son of Heber Levi Hammon , and
Sarah Ann Waters Hammon. Dean attended schools in Menan and Midway. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dean married Barbara Mae Barnes, February 4, 1952, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Dean was a Veteran and served with the United States Army. He began working at the Atomic Energy Commission in 1958 retiring as a security officer from the INEL in 1992. He was a member, and had served as President of the Midway Lions Club, had volunteered with the Menan Fire Department and with the Idaho Falls Police department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, making arrowheads, woodwork, growing and harvesting raspberries, and telling stories. He spent the last15 winters in Quartzsite, Arizona.
He is survived by four daughters, Telecia Ann (Stan) Davenport of Idaho Falls; Shawna Jean Hammon of Rigby; Delaina Mae (Keith) Scholes of Rigby; and Jaralyn Gay (Dan) Christesen of Idaho Falls. Four sons, Dennis Dean Hammon of Rigby; Darrel Levi (Joanne) Hammon of Miles City, Montana; Bradley Kay Hammon of Rigby; and Heber James Hammon of Salt Lake City, Utah. Three sisters, Sarah (Everett) Acor of Terreton; Hazel (Guy) Atwood of Travelers Rest, South Carolina; Louannie (Woodrow) Youngstrom of Aberdeen. One brother, Wilford Lee Hammon of Menan. He is survived by 25 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, his parents, one sister, six brothers, and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the Menan LDS Stake Center. The family will receive friends Monday evening, 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Menan LDS Stake Center and Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the Stake Center. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
