It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Deanna Follett Cook of Rigby, ID, on September 17th, 2026, at the age of 87.
Deanna was the first child born to John and Lorna Follett on December 18th, 1938. She was soon followed by 4 more siblings. Deanna spent much of her early childhood in Winder, ID where she could often be found following her dad around the farm, helping milk the cows and gathering eggs. If she wasn’t following in her dad’s shadow around the farm, she could most often be found with the horses. Something she had a passion for, even later in life. The family later relocated to Logan, UT where Deanna graduated high school from Logan High and then later moved to Salt Lake City to attend cosmetology school where she obtained her Cosmetology Certificate.
Deanna was a very devout and active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and on March 28th, 1960, she married the love of her life, David “Gene” Cook in the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple. They made their home in Rigby, ID where they raised 5 children of their own. Together with Gene they were involved with the Lamenite Placement Program, traveling to many reservations visiting and helping with the Native American People. Through that program they fell in love with and adopted a daughter, Lanell.
Deanna loved being a member of the church and happily served in various callings. She was a talented baker, avid crafter and skilled seamstress that she later put to use teaching others in several 4H clubs. Her love for horses never slowed as she got older, and she eventually started showing them as well. Along with raising her 5 children and helping to raise the grandchildren that had started to arrive, she also bred and sold AKC registered poodles and held several various jobs to supplement the family income.
Deanna is survived by her children Bradley Cook of Manteca, CA., Kevin (Marianne) Cook of Ogden, UT., Gina (Paul) Phillips of Idaho Falls, ID., and Shaun Cook of Portland, OR., along with an adopted daughter, Lanell Thompson, of Salem, OR and 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Gene, her parents John and Lorna, her little sister Kris and her youngest daughter Cindy.
A viewing will be held for close friends and family at Eckersell Funeral Home (101 W Main Street, Rigby, ID) from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23rd with graveside services to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Fielding Memorial Cemetery (4600 S. Yellowstone, Idaho Falls, ID.)
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Carriage Cove Rehabilitation and Care Center for the wonderful care they gave to our beloved Deanna during these final years. We are truly grateful.
