Dee Farrell Bowen

Dee Farrell Bowen, 91 of Lyman passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Rexburg. Dee was born October 15, 1925 in Rexburg, Idaho to Mack Meredith Bowen and Elva Arnold Bowen. He was raised in Lyman and attended school in Lyman, at Cedar Point School and Madison High School. He served in the US Army during WWII. On July 16, 1943 he married Myrth Benson in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple; they were blessed with 5 children. She preceded him in death. On September 30, 2006, he married Ila M. Hall in Billings, Montana. Dee worked for Union Pacific Railroad in Pocatello as a Machinist Apprentice and farmed in the Lyman area since 1946. Dee was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities including Elders Quorum President, as a Bishop’s Counselor, as Superintendent of the Sunday School and as Patriarch of the Rexburg South Stake. He also served on the Ricks College Campus as a High Councilor, and Bishop. Dee enjoyed woodworking, welding and fishing; he especially loved his horses and his dogs. He is survived by a daughter, Dee Anna (Alvin) Rees, of Lyman, Idaho; sons, Paul M. (Aloma) Bowen, of Lyman, Idaho, Stephen D. (Eilona) Bowen, of Lyman, Idaho, Cary L. (Bonnie) Bowen, of St. Anthony, Idaho; sister, Joyce Carnes, of Florence, Arizona; brother, Ross (Virginia) Bowen, of Laverkin, Utah, Mack (Dorthy Ann) Bowen Jr., of Salt Lake City, Utah, David (LuAnn) Munns, of Lyman, Idaho; 18 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Myrth Bowen, a daughter, Elva Ann, brothers, Maurice Bowen and Gerald Bowen, a sister, Eleonor Bowen, 2 granddaughters, 1 grandson, 1 great- granddaughter and 2 great-grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Lyman 1st Ward LDS Chapel, 1952 West 6000 South, Rexburg. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. A visitation will be held Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. Burial will be in Sutton Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby.
