Delbert J. “Butch” Ashbocker of Rigby, Idaho passed away from natural causes on January 11, 2024 at his home in Rigby.

Butch was born on June 25, 1946 in Rexburg, Idaho to Albert Ashbocker and Louise Davis Ashbocker. He was the youngest of 6 children. He got his nickname “Butch” because his sister Bonnie couldn’t say Delbert. “Butch” stuck for the rest of his life.

Butch served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge.

Butch met DaNita Staggie while working for Bass and Hurley’s Potato Warehouse. They dated for a year and half and were later married on August 25, 1967. They were married for 56 years.

Butch worked as a plasterer at the INL where he worked with his brother Gary for many years. After Butch retired from the INL, he began building houses with his brother Dennis.

Butch grew up in Archer, Idaho, was a ranch-hand for a while in Spencer, Idaho, and later planted his roots in the heart of Rigby.

Butch was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved fishing!! He also like to go camping, panning for gold, playing cards with his family, supporting his boys in their athletics, fly tying, macrameing chairs, gardening, and leather working. Butch LOVED animals!!!

Butch is survived by: his wife, DaNita Staggie Ashbocker of Rigby; son, Travis (Amanda) Ashbocker of Rigby; son, Trevor (Mysha) Ashbocker of Pocatello; sister, Betty Chase of Ririe; 2 grandsons and 6 granddaughters. Butch is preceded in death by both of his parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister.

Services will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rigby LDS Stake Center, 258 West 1st North, Rigby, Idaho. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Eckersell Funeral Home, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby, ID. There will also be a visitation prior to the service at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. The Interment will be at the Annis Cemetery.
