Delbert R. Bills, 87, peacefully passed away in Colorado Springs, Colorado Wednesday August 10, 2022.
He was born July 6, 1935 to Royal C. and Verla Ann Smith Bills in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He attended schools in Rigby, Idaho from 1941-1952. Delbert served in the Marine Corps from 1952-1955 as a radio telegraph operator and electronic maintenance, in the Pacific Theater. After his time in the Marine Corps, Delbert attended Idaho State College School of Technology Electronics, a three-year Associate’s degree from 1955-1958.
On February 1, 1957, Delbert married his sweetheart, Faye Guidinger in Lorenzo, Idaho. Together they have 4 children they love dearly. One of Delbert’s highlights was celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2007. This year, they celebrated their 65 th anniversary.
Delbert continued his education at BYU, as part of the five-year professional engineering course, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
Delbert was elected to, and became a Lifetime Member of Tau Beta Pi, National Honorary Engineering Society, Beta of Utah Chapter. He was also a member of the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and held a Lifetime FCC Radiotelephone License.
Delbert worked for AT&T as Business Services Division Engineering Manager from 1962-1989. He managed and was responsible for all Business Services Engineering offices in the United States.
Delbert served as a longtime Scoutmaster in Bountiful, Utah and Berkley Heights, New Jersey. He was an avid banjo and stringed instrument player. He served as President of the First Arizona Banjo Band and played in several different Folk Bands.
Delbert is survived by his wife, Faye Bills; children Karla (Frank) Tate, Jeff (Jennie) Bills, Lorilee (Kraig) Thornton; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Clinton L. Bills; siblings Aldon C. Bills, Elwin L. Bills, and Carol A. Deary.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday August 20, 2022 at Eckersell Funeral Home (101 W Main St Rigby ID 83442). A visitation will be held prior from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Interment will follow at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
