Delbert Gail Larsen

Delbert Gail Larsen, 84, of Ririe died Wednesday, December 23, 2020.

Gail was born June 1, 1936 in Rexburg Idaho, a son of Delbert Larsen and Elda Christiansen.  He attended school in Ashton and Ririe graduating from Ririe High School. Following high school, he attended Ricks College.  He then went on a mission for two and a half years in Denmark, Copenhagen.  He married JoAnn Bowles August 11, 1959 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.  He finished school attending Utah State University and received his master’s in electrical engineering.

He started his career with Boeing in Alabama and returned back to Idaho to work at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory for 30 years, retiring in 1996.  He spent the latter of his retirement years between Ririe and Mesa Arizona.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Bishop in Ririe 1st Ward and as a counselor of the Ririe Stake Presidency as well as on a mission with his wife to West Piney Girls Camp as a caretaker rebuilding many of the facilities that are now used.

He was passionate about boy scouting, receiving the silver beaver award, and he helped his two grandsons become Eagle Scouts.  Some of favorite activities included snow machining, archery and hiking in the mountains.  He enjoyed building, creating, tinkering, and sitting with his family.  He will always be known for the round house above Ririe.

Gail is survived by 2 brothers; son Steve (Beverly) Larsen; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Joann Bowles.

A graveside service will be held for family and friends on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
