He served actively in his community and in 1964 was awarded Man of the Year by the Pocatello Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a great advocate for the disabled and became a member of the governors committee for the handicapped. Then in 1967 he was given the Gallantry Award by the Easter Seals Society. He also served for two terms as the Bannock County Treasurer. He received many awards and recognitions because of his drive to succeed and because of his life of service. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, one of which was a Bishop in the Pocatello 22nd Ward. For many years he coached Little League baseball teams, among them many champion all-star teams. He was beloved by all who knew him and is survived by his wife and children Brady (Kristen) Giles of Cedar Hills, UT; Nicole (Mark) Finn of Rigby, ID; and Newman (Kathy) Giles of Rigby, ID; one sister, Joan (DeVerl) Byington; four brothers, Marvin (Mary Ann) Giles, Lynn (Ann) Giles, Monte (Kathy) Giles, and Frank (Rose) Giles, sixteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
