Delpha Janette Mitchell

October 30, 1931 — December 25, 2017

Delpha Janette Heyrend Mitchell, 86, of Rigby, Idaho passed away Christmas day, December 25, 2017 at her home.  She was born in Clark, Idaho on October 30, 1931, the daughter of Alfred Thomas Heyrend and Ora Jenkins Heyrend.  She was raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho by her paternal grandparents and was a graduate of Idaho Falls High School. Delpha married Richard Galen Mitchell in Idaho Falls, Idaho on December 17, 1949. They raised their family in Rigby, Idaho.  She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  She worked at various employments including Woolworth’s Dime Store, Slusser Wholesale, Stardust Motel and as a Teacher’s Aid at Kinghorn Elementary in Rigby. Delpha loved her community.  She served as a 4-H leader and as treasurer of the Jefferson County Parks and Rodeo.  With her husband, she was recognized as the Grand Marshall for the Jefferson County Stampede. Delpha loved her family.  She made quilts for all her children and grandchildren as they were married, and for the great grandchildren as they were born.  She loved to fish and has had many memorable fishing trips throughout her life. She is survived by her children, Jeanette (Carl) Anderson of Rigby, Idaho, Lori (Robert) Martin of Rigby, Idaho, Sherry Walker of Rigby, Idaho, Amy Cushman of Ucon, Idaho, David (Jackie) Mitchell of Rigby, Idaho and Ben (Bridget) Mitchell of Rexburg, Idaho.  21 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother and a sister. A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Eckersell Memorial Chapel (101 W. Main Street, Rigby, Idaho).  The family will meet with friends on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 7 to 8:30 PM and again on Saturday prior to services from 9:30 to 10:45 AM at Eckersell’s. Interment will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
