Demont J “Ike” Crystal, age 88, of Grant, passed away at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Friday March 13, 2015.
He was born May 3, 1926 at Garfield, Idaho a son to Andrew Vern Crystal and Bessie Venetta Randall Crystal. He was raised and attended schools in Garfield and Ucon. He married Glenna May Johnson March 26, 1949 in Garfield. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple March 26, 2010. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He ranched and farmed in the Garfield, Roberts, Grant, Island Park and Grays Lake areas. He owned and operated with his family Crystal Brothers Rodeo and worked rodeos throughout the intermountain area and in Estrella Park, Arizona for 10 winters. He was inducted to the Eastern Idaho Horseman’s Hall of Fame. He served as president of the National Chariot Association. He enjoyed Chuck Wagon Racing, fishing and hunting. He loved his extended family.
Survivors include his wife: Glenna Grystal of Grant; sons: Randy (Joliene) Crystal of Grant, Jerry (Dorothy) Crystal of Lodi, California, Ryan (Tammy) Crystal of Roberts, and Kevin (Jeanne) Crystal of Garfield; sister Betty Ball Hansen of Shelley; eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son Ryan, a brother Verl and four sisters: Nola, Rhea, LaVon and Lois.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Grant LDS Church, 3431 East 100 North, Rigby. The family will visit with friends at the Grant LDS Church on Wednesday, evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Burial will be in the Grant Central Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
