Denis Eugene “Gene” Streeper, 95, of Ucon, Idaho, passed away on October 15, 2026, at Teton Healthcare of Cascadia in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Gene was born on February 16, 1931, in Ririe, Idaho, to Denis Howard Streeper and Sarah Lyle Rhodes Streeper. The oldest of five children, he grew up with four younger sisters: Nadine Hemsley, Joyce Schneider, Sue Shippen, and Linda Streeper.
After graduating from Ririe High School, Gene served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Butte, Montana. Upon returning home, he married the love of his life, Alma Pauline Skidmore, on May 29, 1953. He then served his country for two years in the United States Army, attaining the rank of corporal.
Gene and Pauline raised five rambunctious children: Karen Naill (Samuel), Kevin Streeper (Beth), Denice Crane (Nelson), DuWayne Streeper (Kristin), and Bradley Streeper (Stefanie). Their family grew to include 14 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Gene worked as an equipment operator at Boise Cascade for 36 years. During that time, he also owned Streeper Fencing, a business that kept his boys busy—and somewhat out of trouble. Later in life, he purchased his first tractor and established Streeper Rotovating, providing garden tilling, mowing, and snow removal throughout the Idaho Falls area. Gene enjoyed the conversations and friendships that came with his work every bit as much as the work itself.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gene served three stake missions and held many callings, including Stake Sunday School presidency, High Priest Group Leader, and financial clerk. His commitment to service extended to his community, where he served as a director on the Ucon Cemetery Board and as a water master in Ucon.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Pauline; their five children; and their many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his four sisters; and his great-granddaughter, Charley Streeper.
Gene will be deeply missed by his family and community. His legacy of hard work, friendship, and selfless service will live on in the many lives he touched.
The family extends their appreciation to the staff at Visiting Angels of Idaho Falls, and at Teton Post Acute Care of Cascadia for their love, compassion and wonderful care of Gene.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at 11:00am in the Ucon LDS Stake Center. The family will meet friends Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Eckersell Funeral Home (101 W Main St, Rigby, ID) from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, and again on Wednesday, prior to services at the church from 9:30 to 10:45am. Interment will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
