DeVar R. Clark (Dee to many of his friends) longtime resident of Idaho Falls and Roberts, Idaho died Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of causes incident to his 100 years of age.
He was born in Raft River, Idaho July 14, 1914, the son of John Roland and Nora Redford Clark. He grew up in the Rexburg, Idaho area. His boyhood days were spent working many jobs on the family dry farm at Moody Creek and in his free time, enjoying the companionship of 5 sisters, LuNone, Phyllis, Lyle, LaReene, Maxine and 1 brother, John Richard.
DeVar graduated from Madison High School in 1932. He worked in the grocery store business from Ashton, Idaho to Idaho Falls where he opened his own grocery store, “DeVar’s Food Store”. After several years of running his own store, he decided to specialize in meat cutting which he did until his retirement with 30 years of service from Broulim’s Food Store in 1998 at the age of 84.
He married Ethelyn Green on September 1, 1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. From this marriage came 5 children who presently reside in Idaho Falls: Sally Ann (Bill) Lawrence, Robert D. Clark, Allan G. (Anita, who is deceased) Clark, Catherine E. Clark, and M. Suzanne (Bart) Sargent, 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. This marriage ended in 1972.
On July 14, 1973 DeVar married Martha Waite and moved to Roberts, Idaho. There he continued doing what he loved most, raising Quarter horses and caring for the farm.
Throughout his life, DeVar has always been mindful of family, neighbors and friends. At this time, his family would like to acknowledge and express their sincere gratitude to all those neighbors and friends who over the years so lovingly gave of themselves to provide comfort and friendship to DeVar. We also express a sincere thanks to the providers of Encompass Home Health for their gentle care and kindness during his last few months of living.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 12:50 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rexburg Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
