Albert “Dick” Richard Furrows, 79 of Roberts, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at his home, of cancer of the lymph nodes and congestive heart failure.
He was born June 12, 1930, in Westfield, Massachusetts, to Albert Walter Furrows and Louisa Eva Mildaise Potter.
He attended schools in Feeding Hills and Agawam Massachusetts, as well as Ramsey New Jersey. He then served in US Navy. On March 10, 1951, he married Jeannine Gloria Watts, in Roberts, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple on May 25, 1955.
He worked with Electric Motors and owned Dick’s Electric Motor Repair in Idaho Falls for 14 years. For the last 16 years before retiring he worked at the INL as an Electrical Technician. He owned and operated Roberts Laundromat, Day-Nite Laundry Center & Kwiki Car Wash, in Rigby, 2 Laundromats in Idaho Falls, and Golden West Motel in West Yellowstone, Montana.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities including; a Counselor in the Bishopric, as a Stake High Counselor, and served many years in scouting.
He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, camping, art, traveling, home and yard work and genealogy.
Dick loved everyone and served many. The family expresses their gratitude to the Hands of Hope Hospice, and all the Doctors and Nurses that cared for him.
He is survived by his wife; Jeannine, of Roberts, daughters; Gloria Jean Trate, of Layton, Utah, Christina Louise (Kevin) Clayton, of San Ramon, California, daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Furrows (Doug) Holm, of Roberts, sons; Gregory Thomas (Sharilee) Furrows, of Rexburg, Alan Richard (Andrea) Furrows, of Ammon, brother; Charles Walter Furrows, of Roberts, 19 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Albert Randal Furrows, brother, Raymond Furrows, and grandsons, Holden Furrows and Brandon Thueson.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, on Monday, March 22, 2010, at the Roberts 2nd Ward LDS Church, 663 N. 2858 E., Roberts, with Bishop Tim Allen, conducting. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby, and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Burton Cemetery, under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
