Donald Boyd Denney

Donald Boyd Denney, 87, of Rexburg, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015 at his home. Don was born May 5, 1928 to Joseph Boyd Denney and Vivian Ladella Reynolds Denney in Downey, Idaho. He moved with his family to the Blackfoot area in 1938 and graduated from Blackfoot High School. He later attended Ricks College and graduated from BYU in Provo, Utah in 1958 with a degree in Industrial Management/Accounting and Economics. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern Canadian Mission from 1949-1951 Don married Sharlene Hansen in 1953 in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple. Right after being married Don served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Camp McCauley in New Jersey and then was stationed overseas in Austria where he patrolled the German border from 1953-1954 He worked for Boeing Aircraft Co. in Seattle, WA, Kennecott Copper in Salt Lake City and then worked for the Federal Government as ASCS Office Manager in Arco and Rexburg, Idaho for twenty Years. He was transferred to the Rexburg ASCS Office following the Teton Dam flood in 1976 and helped restore the farms in the Rexburg area through his work in the Federal Government. Don was active in the L.D.S. Church and served in several bishoprics and ward and stake positions over the years. Don and Sharlene served a mission for the L.D.S. Church together in Charleston, West Virginia 2000-2001. He and his wife served as L.D.S. Temple workers for 25 years in Idaho Falls and Rexburg. He loved working in the yard and garden. He also loved fishing and taking his family and friends boating and water skiing. Don is survived by his wife Sharlene of 62 years, and five sons and their wives: Kerry (Brenda) Denney, Michael (Betsy) Denney, Scott (Jann) Denney, Bruce (Camille) Denney, and Mark (Debbie) Denney, 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, LaMar Denney and Alan Denney. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crest Haven L.D.S. Chapel (1070 S. 2nd E. Rexburg). The family will visit with friends Thursday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Friday prior to the service from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. both at the church. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
