Donald Glen Rawlins; 78, of Menan, Idaho died Sunday, February 5, 2006 at his home in Menan. He was born May 27, 1927 in Rigby, Idaho, the son of Harvey Eugene Rawlins and Abbie Gladys Blair Rawlins. He attended schools in Pocatello and was a graduate of Pocatello High School. He attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho and then Utah State University where he earned degrees in Horticulture and Education.
During World War II he served in the United States Navy stationed in Hawaii. He served as an LDS Missionary to the Southern States Mission in Texas and Louisiana from 1947 to 1948.
He married Illa Green on September 2, 1955 in Idaho Falls, Idaho at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. As member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he served as Bishop of the Pocatello 8th Ward, High Priest Group Leader, Elders Quorum President and Gospel Doctrine Teacher. He served as a temple worker at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple over the Baptistry, and in 2001 he served an LDS Mission to Des Moines, Iowa with his wife Illa.
He worked as a teacher at Firth High School and at Pocatello High School. He later worked for the I.N.E.E.L. as a janitor until his retirement.
Donald loved his family, to garden and to work in his yard.
He is survived by his wife Illa Rawlins of Menan, Idaho. Two daughters; Jane (Kirt) Hunting of Menan, Idaho and Jill (Lewis) Bird of Ammon, Idaho. Two sons; Darwin (Sherri) Rawlins of Snowflake, Arizona and Dale (Carol) Rawlins of Menan, Idaho.
A sister, Bessie (Lenard) Lish of Burley, Idaho. Fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, four brothers and a grandson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 10, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Menan LDS Stake Center with Bishop Randy South officiating. The family will meet with friends on Thursday, February 9, 2006 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Menan Stake Center and on Friday prior to serves from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Menan Stake Center. The burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby.
