Donald LaMar Smith, age 76, of Idaho Falls, Idaho passed away at his home August 13, 2025.
LaMar was born October 29, 1948, in Rigby, Idaho, a son of Lester Ralph Smith and Charlotte Bowman Smith he was the seventh of eight children. He was raised in Rigby and surrounding areas, and graduated from Rigby High School. He started working for his father in construction when he was 12. He had many companies involved in the construction field. LaMar joined the Army in 1968 and served there until 1971, spending time in Vietnam. He married LindaMarie Taylor in Idaho Falls on December 28, 1982, and was sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on March 28, 1992. She was the light of his life for over 42 years. They did everything together. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in different callings of the church. The last 12 years of his working life he worked for Home Depot and gained many close friends he called family.
LaMar was a very good, loving, kind man and when it came to work ethic, he made sure things were done the right way the 1st time.
He loved to hunt, fish, work on old cars and go to car shows.
LaMar is survived by his wife LindaMarie of Idaho Falls, daughters Lynell (Mike) Roberts of Montana, Ardella Marie Taylor of Grand Junction, Colorado, sons, Robert (Hiromi) Taylor of Utah, Dracy (Connie) Taylor of Idaho Falls, sisters, Charleen Sappington of Arizona, Carol Dee (Steven) Dutson of Layton, Utah, brother Ralph Smith of Medicine Lodge, Idaho, William Edward “Smitty” (Lois) Smith of Enid Oklahoma, 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
LaMar was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Shirley, and two brothers Bruce and Wayne.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. The family will visit with friends on Monday evening from 6:00 – 7:30 at the Eckersell Funeral Home (101 W. Main Street, Rigby, Idaho 83442). Burial will be at the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery following the graveside service.
