Donna Andersen Barney 84, of Menan, our precious mother, grandmother and great grandmother, returned to our Heavenly Father, Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at her home after a courageous battle with Myelodysplagia.
She was born February 1, 1927, to Albert Andersen and Vida Ester Walters Andersen, in Rigby, Idaho. She attended school and lived her young adult life in Rigby. She married Blain C. Barney May 19, 1942 in Rexburg, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple in 1957. They were married for 60 years when Blain passed away in 2002. To this union six children were born.
Blain’s work took them many places in Idaho, but they settled in Menan where they lived for 48 years. She enjoyed spending endless hours in her yard, she grew many beautiful flowers and had a raspberry patch that produced big beautiful berries that were enjoyed with love and appreciation by her family.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a missionary for two years at the Genealogy library in Idaho Falls and in several other callings.
Donna is survived by her six children, Nina (Neldon) Hawkins of Rigby, Blain K. (Shelia) Barney of Rexburg, Robert (Betty) Barney of Rigby, Riley (Tanis) Barney of Tucson, AZ, Shona (John) Tanner of Bountiful, Utah, Trena (Steven) Hansen of Rigby, two brothers, Calvin Andersen of Rupert, and Austin Andersen of Houston, TX., 38 grandchildren, 80 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, Eugene, Milton, Raymond, Elmo and Lamar, two sisters, Verda Pelton, and Sadie Anderson and two grandchildren, Kelsie Tanner and Jordan Barney.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Menan L.D.S. Stake Center with Bishop Garth Gunderson conducting. The family will visit with friends on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. and prior to the service on Monday at the Stake Center from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery next to her husband Blain.
