Dorothy Mae Walker

April 21, 1928 — April 14, 2016

In loving memory of Dorothy Mae McNeil Walker who was born April 21, 1928, to Michael and Thelma McNeil in Rigby, Idaho and died April 14, 2016 at the age of 87, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was the second of six children. Her siblings were Barbara (Lon Ellingford), Donna (Morgan Edwards), Gayle (Leland Bressler), Marilyn (Larry Atkinson), and Michael "Kent" (Darlean). She was preceded in death by her husband Roland L. "Von", her parents, her sister Barbara, her brother Michael “Kent”, her son Blair, her grandson Joe Erickson, and her great grandson Ridge Bird. Dorothy grew up in Clark, near Rigby, Idaho where she delighted in the love of her family and friends. During her childhood she would run in the fields, swim in the nearby canals, do family chores, and play with her siblings and friends. She was raised during the great depression, where she learned to appreciate the simple and important things in life. She lived by the saying, "Sew it up, wear it out; make it do, or do without." She loved history, especially Native American history. She loved flowers and birds and poetry. She loved to read. She cherished the beauty of a sunrise even more than a sunset. She married Roland LaVon Walker January 16, 1948 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple and they had seven children. They also had a little poodle named Tish, who never left her side. Dorothy lived a lifetime of service to her family and to her church. Her children (and grandchildren) were blessed by her unwavering love, her listening ear, and her tender counsel. She saw the good in everyone and inspired hope in life and a faith in Heavenly Father. She loved the gospel and she lived what she believed. Dorothy was the homemaker, the peacemaker, and the loving nurturer of her children and grandchildren. She lived an exemplary life of unwavering kindness to all. She saw the good in everyone and she lived without guile. She will be greatly missed by their children Marla & Jay Evans, Celia & Blair Erickson, Jan & Brad Gordon, Roland N. "Rollie" & Sally Walker, Blair (deceased) & Debbie Walker, Lorin & Vikki Walker, and Keith & Allyson Walker and their 32 grandchildren and 65 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on her birthday Thursday, April 21st, 2016, at the Lewisville 1st Ward Chapel, with Bishop Roger Nield officiating. The family will visit with family and friends from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Wednesday evening and again at 9:30 am to 10:45 am on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home. The Walker family extend their sincere gratitude to family and friends, near and far, who have been so kind and loving to our mother.
