Douglas Walter Preston, age 84, of Milo, died Sunday, May 27, 2007 at his home in Milo, surrounded by his loving children.
He was born April 26, 1923, at Clarkston, Washington, a son of Walter Preston and Constance Wingad Preston. He attended schools in Clarkston, Washington and Idaho Falls, Idaho. He moved with his family to Idaho Falls in 1932. He joined the Idaho National Guard and served with the 116th Engineer Battalion in Australia during World War II. He married Eleanor Mae Ellars October 21, 1957 in Elko, Nevada. They moved to Milo in 1959 where he farmed, worked as a Forman for Pro-Ida Potato Growers in Idaho Falls for 22 years and for 2 years for Pro-Ida in Ririe. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Island Park, hunting, fishing and traveling with his wife in their motor home.
He is survived by three daughters: Sue DeVila of Phoenix, Arizona, Tammy Hope of Menan, Idaho and Kathy Preston of Rigby; two sons: Doug Preston and Mike (Wendy) Preston both of Menan; one sister Mildred Channel of Lewiston, Idaho and one brother Charles (Joan) Preston of Idaho Falls; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eleanor March 14, 2005 and one sister Kathleen Oliver.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 31, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Milo Cemetery.
