DeWayne L. “Dutch” Hansen, 89 of Rigby, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at his home.
Dutch was born November 02, 1928 in Tetonia, Idaho to LeRoy W. Hansen and Wanda Fullmer Hansen. He was raised and attended schools in Tetonia and Driggs, graduating from Teton High School in Driggs. During high school he participated in football, basketball, boxing and glee club. On June 18, 1947, he married, Lola Belle Floyd in the Idaho Falls, Latter-day Saint Temple. Dutch and Lola made their home in Rigby and were blessed with 5 children; Diana, Jeff, Deborah, Lori and Kirk.
Dutch worked as an Instrumentation Technician in nuclear research at the INL; he was a member of the OCAW Union and served as Union Vice President and The Workman’s Committee Chairman. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities including Ward Clerk and as a Scout Leader. Dutch was a long-time member of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Posse and served as Drill Master and President. He also enjoyed trail riding, motorcycling, camping, hunting and snowmobiling with his “Over the Hill Gang”. He loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their various activities. He always had a great love for horses, adventure, and family. Dutch and Lola, the love of his life, will always be fondly remembered for their beautiful singing voices. They continued to sing throughout their lives at many posse meets, wagon train/cattle drives to island park, funerals, church activities, and around the campfire with family and friends.
Dutch is survived by his children; Diana (Mike) Tomita, Jeff (Sandy) Hansen, Deborah (Jim) Finn, Lori (Jeff) Girton, Kirk (Janette) Hansen, all of Rigby, siblings; Dell (Sharon) Hansen, of Idaho Falls, Keith Hansen, of Mesquite, Nevada, Peggy Hansen Bird, of Idaho Falls, 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers; Lyle Hansen and Gerald Hansen and a grandson, Zach Beard.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rigby 12 th Ward (LDS Chapel, 602 Sundance Drive, Rigby). The family will receive friends Thursday, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel (101 West Main Street, Rigby) and Friday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby.Eckersell Funeral Home
