Dwayne Earl Summers, 86, of Ririe, died Saturday, August 1, 2009, at his son’s home in Coltman.
He was born February 5, 1923, in Ririe, to John Levinas Nicholas Summers and Dora Montgomery Summers. He was the seventh of eight children.
He attended school in Ririe and graduated from Ririe High School. He continued his education at Brigham Young University. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
In February, 1946, he married Nola Madsen Summers, their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple. She passed away in October 1997.
He was a dry farmer and farmed on Antelope flats for many years. He farmed ground that his father homesteaded in 1912. He received several awards for his conservation efforts in farming and most recently set ground aside to help Sharp Tail Grouse. He worked at Rogers Brothers seed plant and U and I sugar factory.
Dwayne was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many capacities including scout explorer leader, home teacher and stake missionary.
He is survived by a daughter, Nola Delaine (Rick) Jones, of Idaho Falls, sons, Arlo Dwayne (Lorene) Summers, of Idaho Falls, Burl Lane Summers, and Shayne Lavern Summers, of Idaho Falls, a brother, Jay (June) Summers, of Walla Walla, Wa., 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 5 sisters, a brother, and a granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 6, 2009, at the Ririe Stake Center, with Bishop Ken Andersen, conducting. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., Thursday, prior to services at the Stake Center. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery, under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. The family wishes to thank Western Visiting Nurses for their tender care.
