Earl Guy Jones, 77, of Ammon, died Monday, May 29, 2006 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
Earl was born September 27, 1928, at Rigby, Idaho a son of Francis Gilbert Jones and LaVerne Whitehead Jones. He attended schools in Salmon and Rigby graduating from Rigby High School in 1946, where he enjoyed playing football. He graduated from Ricks College with a Bachelors Degree and from University of Idaho with an MBA. He married Claris Andersen December 15, 1948 at Arco, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He worked for the department of Energy for 30 years, when he retired in 1989 he was the Director of Finance. Earl served with the Idaho National Guard 116th Engineering battalion. He served on the Rigby School Board for 8 years. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Counselor in the Bishopric, Stake Sunday School Superintendent, Stake High Counsel, Ward Clerk, and in the Young Men’s Program. He enjoyed gold prospecting, camping, golfing, spending time with his family especially his grandchildren, was very much loved by all that knew him and will be missed dearly.
Survivors include: his wife Claris Jones of Ammon; one daughter Jan (Carl) Shippen of Rigby; three sons: Kurt A. (Kris) Jones of Idaho Falls, Jeffrey E. (Angie) Jones of Idaho Falls, Cory V. (Carolyn) Jones of Rigby; one sister Lois (Vaughn) Hunter of Boise; one brother Kenneth R. (Sue M.) Jones of San Antonio, Texas: 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one daughter Sherri Marie.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 1, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Rigby LDS Stake Center 258 W. 1st North, with Bishop Earl Bishop officiating. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Stake Center. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
