Edward “Ed” William Hunter passed away on January 4, 2024, after a three week stay in the Idaho Falls Community Hospital.
Edward was born in Rexburg, Idaho on November 11, 1961 to Donnell and Nita Hunter. He was the fifth of eight children, being the third of six boys in the family.
Edward was a very busy little boy. He loved taking things apart and putting them back together again. As he grew up, he used this talent and could repair most anything. He loved being a mechanic and did that for quite some time.
After becoming an adult, Edward has lived most of his life in Idaho Falls.
He married Anna Adam and they had two children, two little girls, Jessica and Jamie. Jamie, was born with severe defects. She was predicted to live a year or two. Rather than put little Jamie into a care taking place, Edward chose to keep her at home and was a main caretaker of little Jamie. She lived to the age of nine and a half years. He and Anna were later divorced.
Edward loved tearing apart and repairing things. He has made a living for several years by gathering worn out metal equipment, taking it apart and selling the useable metal. He then began gathering barn wood. He would tear down a complete barn, take each board, clean it up and made a good living selling it.
He has learned to work with the wood itself and has made beautiful shelves and mantel pieces.
Edward loved the out-of-doors. He loved being out in nature and that is where he felt closest to Heavenly Father. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Although he was not religious, he was very spiritual and full of faith.
Edward had the Christ-like disposition of serving. He would help anyone, even complete strangers in time of need, and was very well known for his helping hand. Multiple times we have heard from people who have benefitted from his service.
He was kind and compassionate to all.
Edward and Joanie Pierce found each other and have been together for eight years. She is going to miss him very much.
Edward is survived and will be missed by Joanie, his daughter Jessica Adam, his mother, Nita Hunter, his sisters, Donita (Gerald) Christensen, Sally (Kirk) Geisler, and his brothers, Michael (Lisa), Kerry (Denece), Alan, (Lillie), Kim (Gretchen), Nathan (Stacey), four grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Jamie, and his father, Donnell Hunter.
The family will visit with friends Tuesday evening, Jan. 9 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Eckersell Funeral Home 101 West Main Street, Rigby and on Wednesday at the LaBelle Fourth Ward Chapel, 4223 E 528 N, Rigby, ID from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
