Elaine Gilson

Elaine Gilson 86, of Rigby, Idaho, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024, in Rigby, Idaho. Elaine was born April 3, 1937 in Rexburg, Idaho, the only child of John Gilson and Chloe Ann Browning Gilson.

Elaine grew up in the Rigby area, she lived most of her childhood on the Lorenzo family farm. Elaine often spoke about attending a two-room school house. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended the Rigby 10th Ward where she served on the funeral committee and as the Ward Librarian for many years.

After the passing of her parents Elaine Lived alone in her home in Rigby for many years, where she loved and cared for her dogs, Angie, Preston, and Joe as well as many others. She was known as a sort of dog whisperer.

Elaine was always so compassionate and always thinking of others. She took care of her next-door neighbor Jacoba Neuterman, until Jacoba passed away. Elaine spent many happy years living at Pinebrook Assisted Living, followed by living with the Young’s in their home.

Elaine loved to knit hats which she donated to hospitals and other organizations. She enjoyed making doll clothes, which she gave away to make children happy. She loved doing crafts, and making many different types of beaded and glass figurines.

Elaine never married or had children of her own, but that never slowed her down for showing love towards other children. She baby sat many children of the neighborhood, while their parents worked. Elaine put others first before herself. She was a very loving person who spoke continually about her love for her mother and father.

Elaine had a very keen mine and memory even in her latter years. She could recall names and dates of family often from when she was younger. She mentioned many times the names of cousins and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Chloe Ann Browning Gilson and many of her cousins of which she was very close too.

Graveside services will be held at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery Monday, April 1, 2024 at 11:00am.
