Ivy Elaine Crystal Hoggan, 81 of Hamer, died Friday, December 26, 2014 at her home.
She was born February 17, 1933 in Garfield, Idaho to David Raymond Crystal and Ivy Neilsena Jensen Crystal. She was raised in the Garfield area, attended Rigby schools and graduated from Rigby High School in 1951. Elaine continued her education at Ricks College and received her Registered Nursing Degree. On June 5, 1950 she married Carl Ralph Hoggan in Garfield. Their Marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on March 10, 1965.
Elaine worked as a Registered Nurse in Ashton, in Salt Lake City at the V.A. Hospital, in Jefferson County as a Public Health Nurse for 25 years, as a nurse at the INEL, and as a Surgery Nurse at the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls. She also co-owned Hoggan Rodeo Company with her husband Carl. She was awarded Legend of Nursing in 2005 and was recognized by Local News 8 as
“8 Who Make a Difference” in 1991. She was a member of the Lions Club in Hamer and received the Melvin Jones Award for 2003-2004. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Relief Society and Young Women’s organizations. As a hobby she enjoyed knitting, and was a rock hound.
She is survived by her daughters, Crystal (Nathan) Carpenter, of Arco, Nancy (Wade) Durham, of Hamer, sons, Jay (Shelley) Hoggan, of Hamer, David (Sondra) Hoggan of Hamer, 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, 3 grandchildren and 9 brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Hamer LDS Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Monday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Dubois Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
