Elaine was born August 6, 1948 in Rigby, Idaho, the fifth child and second daughter of Norris and Donna Scott Fullmer. She was followed by two more brothers, who completed the family. She was raised on the family farm in Menan, working in the fields of potatoes and sugar beets, and showing lambs and steers in stock shows every spring. She also learned to be a fabulous cook from her mother. However, despite her parents’ best efforts, she never acquired their taste for fish or fishing. In spite of this, while she was caring for her mother, whenever one of the sons or grandsons would bring her mother a fish she would lovingly cook it for her.
She attended Menan Elementary, Midway Junior High, and Rigby High School, graduating from Rigby High in 1966. She attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho and then barber school in Salt Lake City, later working as a barber in Salt Lake and then Idaho Falls. In 1973, she was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Indiana and Michigan, developing an abiding testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and making life-long friendships.
Following her mission, she continued work as a barber until she married Sheldon Kaye in the Idaho Falls LDS temple in April of 1975. They moved to Provo, Utah where Sheldon attended BYU, and together they oversaw a group home for at-risk teens at State Hospital South. In 1978 they moved to Logan, Utah so Sheldon could attend Utah State University, where they divorced in 1979.
Returning to Utah Valley, Elaine went back to work at State Hospital South, resuming her work with at-risk teens, once again forming lifelong relationships with those fortunate enough to have her in their lives.
From the birth of her first nephew in 1964 to the birth of her last nephew in 1999, she became Aunt “Nanie” (a nickname bestowed on her by her loving dad) to the children of her brothers and sister. They loved to stay with her whenever they could, and to have her babysit them. She loved them all as if they were her own and she had the ability to make each one feel that he or she was her favorite. In fact, each one really was.
In the spring of 1986, her Uncle Vern introduced her to a young widower with three children. After a brief courtship she married Charles Kenneth Taylor, the love of her life, for time and eternity in the Provo, Utah LDS temple and she became a loving stepmom to Charlie, Jeff and Amanda.
She served in many callings in the Church, her favorite being called to serve in the nursery at the Idaho Falls LDS temple.
When she was a teenager, she helped with the care of her Grandma Scott after a massive stroke until her death. She then helped her mother deal with serious health problems, including breast cancer. As her parents aged, she helped with the care of her Dad until his passing in 1999. In 2007 she became the primary caregiver (lovingly supported by Charles) of her Mom until her death in 2012.
She is survived by her husband of Rigby, her stepchildren, Charlie (Tracy) and Amanda of Idaho Falls, and Jeff (Audrey) of North Pole, Alaska, sister Beverly (Ray) Bishop, of Orem, Utah, brothers Lyle (Angelika) of Cologne, Germany, Dean (Carol) of Menan, Scott (Christina) of Idaho Falls, Boyd of Boise, sister-in-law Reneé of Sugar City, 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and 35 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her brother, Ross, and twin grandsons, Kaden Charles Taylor and Jaden Danny Taylor.
We wish to extend gratitude for the tender care she received from Aspen Home Health & Hospice.
