Elda Janet Thiemann, age 96, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Janet was living in Rigby, but was a long-time resident of Buhl, Idaho. She considered Buhl her home, and missed her home, friends, and the community.

Janet was born May 9, 1928, in Eagle Rock, Idaho, which is now Idaho Falls. She was the first child of Everett Earnest Woodhouse and Agnes Elda Olsen. Her siblings included one brother, Lloyd Everett, and two sisters, Yvonne Agnes, and Carol Ann. She took her role as oldest sister seriously, and it was a role that she cherished throughout her life.

Originally the family settled in Rigby, Idaho, but in May of 1938 they moved to a farm in Dietrich, Idaho. Janet and Lloyd both graduated from Dietrich High School in May of 1947. After she graduated, she moved to Twin Falls, and like most young people, had a series of jobs. She was a checker at Newberry’s, worked as a secretary at Zion’s Wholesale, and at the Department of Public Assistance.

In 1949, while on a blind date she was introduced to Henry Thiemann of Buhl. They were married, July 2, 1950, in Gooding, Idaho. They began their married life in Gooding. Henry had served in WW2 and when he returned home, he began hauling milk for Sego Milk, which would become Pet Milk in Buhl. This became his life’s work and hers. He managed the trucks, and she managed the books. Janet was the consummate bookkeeper, accurate, detailed, and thorough. She was exceptionally organized, and she loved organizing everything and everyone around her.

Janet’s mother died in 1951, and this was hard for her and the rest of the family. Carol, her youngest sister was only eight.

Henry and Janet had one daughter, Audrey. However, they had the opportunity, which they both considered a privilege to have her sister Carol, and a nephew, Dan, and two nieces, Michelle and Molly live with them at various times. In her own words, “needless to say, these children hold a special place in our hearts and in our lives.”

In 1965, Henry and Janet moved to Buhl. From that time on, Buhl was home. Janet lived there until September of 2018 when she relocated first to Parma, Idaho and then to Rigby, Idaho to be near to family.

When the four grandsons came along, they became the focus of her life. Henry and Janet watched hundreds of baseball games, mostly from the cab of the pickup parked near the first base line. Janet became known as Grandma T and it was a title that she loved.

In November of 1998, Henry died. This year would have marked the 27th anniversary of his death. She wore her wedding ring until the day she died. Henry and Janet were an interesting match. Both strong willed and stubborn but totally devoted to one another. She had a happy and full life, after he passed, but she missed him terribly. She really did not want to leave Buhl, because it meant to her leaving Henry.

Janet was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she held many callings during her long life. Many times, serving as either a teacher or the secretary of various organizations. She also loved 4-H and was a 4-H leader for about 15 years.

Janet is survived by her sister Carol (Reed) Warnick, daughter Audrey (David) Ross, four grandsons, Jason (Cori) Ross, Josh (Ashlee) Ross, Brett (Cheri) Ross, and Brad (Jen) Ross, seventeen great-grandchildren, and her niece Molly (Gary) Brown. She is proceeded in death by her husband, Henry Thieman, her parents, brother, Lloyd, her sister Yvonne, and a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Ross.

Janet lived in an assisted living facility and was under the care of hospice for six years. The family would like to thank the staff of both Sage Grove Assisted Living and Aspen Home Health and Hospice, for their compassionate care for her.

The funeral will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Clear Creek Ward, (1001 Fair Avenue, Buhl, Idaho 83316). The burial will follow at the West End Cemetery (1574 E 4150 N Buhl Idaho 83316). The viewing will be held prior to the funeral, from 9:30 to 10:45.  Arrangements are under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby, Idaho.
