Eldon W. Poole, age 81, of Rigby, Idaho, died Monday, March 21, 2005, at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Eldon was born March 10, 1924 in Menan, Idaho, the son of Walter E. and Dora Elizabeth Rounds Poole.
Eldon grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls and Rigby. He graduated from Rigby High School. He married Vonda Fisher January 31, 1947 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Eldon was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. He served as Young Mens Secretary, in the Elders Quorum as a counselor, and as President. He served in the Sunday School Presidency, and as a financial clerk under three bishops, and as an assistant High Priest Group leader. Eldon was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He had earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and had served as a Scout Master.
He had served in the community in the Rigby Lions Club, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served in the Rigby Fire Department, and was the Rigby Fire Chief for 20 years. He worked with his father and owned Pooles’ Auto Body in Rigby for 35 years, and had been a member of the Rigby Chamber of Commerce.
He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War Two in the Pacific Theater. He had been a member of the National Chariot Association as a starter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing, and was a charter member of the Jefferson Hills Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife Vonda F. Poole of Rigby; Five daughters, Ronda Kay Harston of Rigby, Idaho; Debra Dester (John) of Provo, Utah; Cathy McMurtrey (Roger) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Karyn Beesley (James) of Rigby, Idaho, Anne-Elizabeth Meikle of Idaho Falls, Idaho; three sons: Ryan E. Poole (Sharron) of Rigby, Idaho; Reid W. Poole (Corinne) of Orem, Utah; Bryce L Poole (Rosa) of Orem, Utah; two sisters: Luana P. Eckersell (Bruce) of Rigby, Idaho, Coleen P. Poulsen (R. Kay) of St George, Utah; 28 grandchildren, and 8 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 24, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in the Rigby L.D.S. Stake Center. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Church. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
