Ellen C. Clement, 86, of Lewisville, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2005, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
She was born in Menan, Idaho, on February 3, 1919, to George and Ada Cherry. She was the eldest child born into the family and was followed by one sister and one brother.
She grew up in Menan and her life was centered around family and friends. She attended school in Menan, graduating from Midway High School in 1937. She worked for J.L. Hayes and Sons in Menan and J.C. Penney, first in Ogden, Utah, and later Rigby, Idaho.
She married her high school sweetheart, Gale Clement, on May 6, 1943, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. They established their home at the east end of Lewisville, where she became a homemaker and devoted companion. Their first child, a daughter, Roie Ellen, was born in 1944. In 1948, they moved to their second home in Lewisville, where their sons were born; Ray in 1950 and Ryan in 1959. In 1963, they built their dream home at the west end of Lewisville.
Ellen always made her home a place of beauty and refuge for family and friends. She loved decorating and beautifying her home and took special joy in the yard, growing lovely roses. She was an avid reader and an active member of the LDS Church. She enjoyed her service in the Young Women's organization and Relief Society. For many years, she was a member of the Rigby Study Club and hosted many of their events in her home. Ellen was well known in the community as a gracious hostess and also for her wonderful chocolate layer cake.
In 1972, they purchased a cabin in Island Park that became a cherished weekend getaway for the next 28 years. Family and friends always enjoyed sharing time there with them. The grandchildren have special memories of vacations to the cabin.
She is survived by three children, Roie Ellen (Glen) Lemon of Fort Worth, Texas, Ray (Myrlann) Clement of Grant, and Ryan (Heather) Clement of Idaho Falls; six grandchildren, Paul Lemon, Amy Rae (Robert) Mullins, Cindy Rae (Chris) Merrill, Craig Clement, Cory Clement and Christian Clement; two great-grandchildren, Grace Ellen Mullins and Jackson Mullins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gale; her parents; one sister, Thurza; and one brother, Ray.
Funeral services will be Monday October 10, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lewisville LDS Church. The family will meet with friends at the Lewisville LDS Church, West Main Street in Lewisville, Sunday from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., and Monday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
