Elmer “Leon” Beard, 71, of Tetonia, died Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Teton Valley Hospital.
He was born May 6, 1942, in Driggs, Idaho to Elmer Aaron Beard and Lucille Chase Beard. He was raised and attended schools in Tetonia and graduated from Teton High School. He continued his education a Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, and Glenn E. Clarke Business College in Idaho Falls, Idaho. On April 14, 1983, he married Martha “Sue” Woolstenhulme in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple. They were blessed with 2 children.
Leon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to the West Central States from 1960 to 1962; he served as Executive Secretary in the Bishopric, as a Sunday School President, Sunday School Teacher, Primary Teacher, as a Special Interest Leader as well as Special Interest President. He enjoyed repairing machinery and taking care of his animals.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Beard, of Tetonia, daughter, Katie (Adam) Wynn, of Rexburg, son, Kerry (Kayla) Beard, of Tetonia, brother, Harold (Cleo) McCracken, of Archer, and 3 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mona Hansen, and a brother, Aaron Beard.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the Tetonia 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, with Bishop Jim Douglas, conducting. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services both at the church. Burial will be in the Cache Clawson Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
