Elmer George Wilde, 85 died of natural causes on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at his home in Roberts surrounded by his family. Elmer was born June 21, 1929 in Arco, Idaho to Andrew George Wilde and Alice Rae Burton Wilde. He attended elementary school in Shelley. His father, Andrew, was killed in a car accident when Elmer was 12 years old. His mother, Alice, later married Calvin Vinson Drowns and they lived in Roberts where Elmer resided the rest of his life. Their stepfather Calvin (aka Kelly) was a wonderful father to them.
Elmer served in the 6th Division of the 24th Infantry for the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1956 as an Auto Mechanic. He served actively in the Korean War and received medals for, Army of Occupation, United Nations Service, and Korean Service. He also received 2 bronze service stars.
On November 18, 1955 Elmer married his one true love, Deanna Rae Hubbard (Wilde). They lived and farmed in Roberts. Elmer had many qualities but first and foremost was providing for his family. He was a hard worker and there was nothing he would rather do than work. He farmed with his brother Avon and they did all their own work from planting, moving pipe, harvesting, repairing and working on farm machinery. Due to his hard work he was able to retire from farming on his terms in 1974. Elmer was the Sexton of the Market Lake Cemetery in Roberts for 41 years and took great pride in this job. He was known for taking care of the living and the dead.
Elmer took great pride in gardening and living off the land. He shared this love with his wife Deanna. Elmer built a greenhouse where Deanna would grow plants from seed. During the garden harvest people would come from all over to purchase the fruits of their labor. They also had a root cellar where they stored their bounty for the winter. They were known for feeding the community and sharing what they had with others. His hobbies included camping, fishing, snow planes, and snowmobiling, working, and spending time with family and friends.
Elmer was a compassionate man and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was always there to lend a helping hand, no matter who you were. He had a great love for the Salvation Army who provided for them many times throughout his childhood. He had a contagious laugh and a love for life that was infectious. He was a great man and he will be dearly missed.
