Elna Petersen Koon

Eliza Elna Petersen Koon, 90, of Rexburg, died Monday, August 29, 2011, at her home. She was born September 9, 1920, in Goshen, Idaho to Peter Walter Petersen and Hazel Butler Petersen. She was raised and attended schools in Archer. On February 7, 1941, she married Vance Clifton Koon in Lyman, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on April 4, 1980. To this union they added 8 children. Elna was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a 4-H leader for 20 years, active in the Blazer Scouts, and a member of the Daughter of the Utah Pioneers and Ladies Auxiliary. Elna enjoyed crocheting and gardening, loved the outdoors and being with her family. She is survived by daughters, Martia (Dennis) Graham, Dianna (Reed) Merrill, both of Rigby, sons, Harvey Koon, of Rexburg, Bruce (Sheryl) Koon, of Ririe, Rodger (Reneé) Koon, of Leaburg, Oregon, Clair (Karen) Koon, of Nyssa, Oregon, Kip Koon, of Rexburg, Frank (Kim) Koon, of Syracuse, Utah, brother, Ivan (Jean) Petersen, of Hoquiam, Washington, 28 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vance Clifton Koon, and a brother, Grant Petersen. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2011, at Burton LDS Chapel, 3958 W. 2000 S., Rexburg, with Bishop McClausky, conducting. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby, and from 12:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
