Elwood “Sonny” Hancock, 91, of Rexburg Idaho passed away at his home where he was under the care of his family and Abode Hospice, Tuesday September 20, 2016. Sonny was born on October 24, 1924 to Thomas and Jeanne Hancock. He grew up and attended schools in the Union-Lyman area. Sonny worked as a Brick Mason for all his adult life as well as farming in the Lyman area. On August 26, 1945 he married the love of his life Ramona Russell Hancock that union was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1966. Ramona and Elwood where blessed with five children three daughters and two sons. Sonny was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and built and owned a gyrocopter. His hobbies include reading (especially about Indians and their customs) flintknapping, making knives, hunting and working with wood. Sonny also had a love of motorcycles especially Harley Davidson. Sonny is survived by his three daughter: Shelia (Blain) Barney of Rexburg, Peggy (Landon) Marlor of Jerome, Lori (Joe) Kidd of Rexburg, two sons: Ricky (Lori) Hancock of Rexburg, Brett (Julie) Hancock of Rexburg, a brother, Bernie (Bonnie) Hancock, along with 20 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Jeanne Hancock, wife, Ramona Hancock, a brother, Junior Blaine, and one great grandson Jordan Barney. Funeral services will be held Saturday September 24, 2016, 11:00am, at the Lyman 1st Ward LDS church. Prior to the service the family will have a viewing starting at 9:30 am. The family will visit with friends and family Friday September 23, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Burial will be at the Sutton Cemetery.
