Erma Matilda Gunderson

Erma Matilda Olsen Gunderson, 91 of Menan, Idaho died Saturday October 16, 2004 at the Madison Memorial Hospital. She was born April 23, 1913 in Rigby to Henry Olsen and Florence Christina Lundquist Olsen. She graduated from Rigby High School and then attended the Links Business College and graduated in 1931. She married Alvin Vern Gunderson November 29, 1933 in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. They lived on their farm on the south side on the Menan Buttes where they raised 5 sons. After the Teton Dam flood they moved closer to Menan. As a young woman, Erma worked as a legal Secretary for District Judge George W. Edgington of Idaho Falls. She later worked for the Menan Co-op as their book keeper intermittently from 1943 until she retired in 1978. Erma was a member of the LDS Church and actively served in all the Menan Ward Auxiliary organizations. She served as Stake Relief Society secretary for over 20 years. She and Vern served a mission to Minneapolis, Minnesota during 1982-1983. Survivors include their 5 sons, Alvin Vern (Yolanda) Gunderson of Idaho Falls, Neil Olsen (Althea) Gunderson of Ririe, Kay Ben(Nola) Gunderson of Menan, Keith Paul (Deoine) Gunderson of Terreton, and David Clyde (Yvona) Gunderson of Idaho Falls, Three brothers Dale (Carole) Olsen of Rigby, Roy (Nancy) Olsen of Rigby and Lynn (Adele) Olsen of Idaho Falls, 24 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Vern, 2 brothers Frank and Ray Olsen, a sister Aletha Ahlstrom and 2 granddaughters, Daniele Gunderson and Mary Gunderson Moss. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October, 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Menan LDS Stake Center in Menan, Idaho. The family will meet with friends Wednesday night, October 20, 2004 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, and on Thursday, October, 21, 2004 at the Menan Stake Center from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery following the service under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel.
