Evelyn Ann Ball Winegar Wilcox

June 9, 1936 — March 22, 2018

Evelyn Ann Ball Winegar Wilcox, 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 22, 2018, in Pocatello, Idaho surrounded by her daughters. Born June 9, 1936, Evelyn was the first-born and only daughter of Gerald Richard Ball and Emma Sievers. Evelyn had many fond memories of her childhood with her two younger brothers (Gerald Lee and Gale), extended family, and lifelong friends. She learned to keep the good times rolling and always joked about “being on the Ball.” After graduating from Rigby High School in 1954, Evelyn married Lee Winegar. During their 32-year marriage, they raised three daughters of whom Evelyn was very proud—Lee Ann, Shellie, and Allison.   Evelyn was a supportive wife and mother through Lee’s deployment to Korea and many moves (Fort Ord, Ogden, Aberdeen, and St. Anthony) prior to settling in Pocatello in 1963 to raise their girls. After Lee’s retirement from the Pocatello Police Department, they moved to Fremont County where she resided until moving back to Pocatello due to failing health. Evelyn was always a nurturer—both to family and friends.   A naturally-busy, fun-loving, and creative person, Evelyn enjoyed baking, sewing, painting, crafting, children, older folks, and family history. She was a 4-H Club leader, a school lunch lady, a care-giver, and tried many other careers through the years. She loved holidays, reunions, family and social gatherings, dancing, flowers (especially iris), music, travelling, walking, and collecting dishes, jewelry, or denim for her next quilt. She taught her family and others many important life principles and skills including: resilience, kindness, tidiness, determination, reliability, and compassion. Always up for a good time, Evelyn’s favorite past-times included: visiting with friends and neighbors, enjoying grandchildren, travelling, pinochle, camping trips, and many trips to Reno to visit her father and step-mother, Myrtie. Evelyn later married Harold Wilcox of St. Anthony on Valentine’s Day 1990 and they greatly enjoyed each other’s companionship for over 20 years, including two years in Hurricane, Utah. Harold preceded Evelyn in death in 2012. In her final years, Evelyn entered a new phase of life. Her gentle nature and huge smile continued to brighten the lives of not only Evelyn’s nearby family but also her new friends and acquaintances at Caring Hearts. She greatly enjoyed her time back in Pocatello. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband (Harold), parents, and one brother (Gerald Lee). She is survived by one brother, Gale R. Ball (Blackfoot), and her three daughters: Lee Ann Dutton (Gene), Shellie Gilmore (Kerry), and Allison Carter (Mark)—all of Pocatello as well as eight grandchildren: Bryan Dutton (Mandy), Jenny Lambson (Lane), Julie Nelson (Joe), Emily Dutton, Michael and Kellie Gilmore, and Brayden and Kylee Carter, and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held Tuesday, March 27th at 2:00 p.m. at Eckersell Funeral Home, 101 West Main Street, Rigby, Idaho. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.eckersellfuneralhome.com.
