Ferrin B. Kinghorn

Ferrin B. Kinghorn, 92 of Rigby, honored husband, dad, gramps, and great-grandpa passed away peacefully at his home in Rigby, Tuesday, September 17, 2013; 2 days after his 68th wedding anniversary to his wife, Virginia. Ferrin was born February 21, 1921, in Rigby, Idaho, the 3rd of 5 children to Arthur Thomas Kinghorn and Mary Ballantyne Kinghorn. He was raised in the Bybee area and graduated from Rigby High School in 1939. After high school he moved to Los Angeles, CA, where he worked for Lockheed until joining the Navy in 1941. He became a full Lieutenant Fighter Pilot, flying off aircraft carriers. On September 15, 1945 he married Virginia Adalyn Blessing in Wynne, Arkansas. He then attended Pepperdine University on the G.I. Bill and then graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1952 from Colorado A & M, now Colorado State University. He taught Veterinary Medicine for 1 year before returning to the Rigby Area to begin his practice; the Rigby Veterinary Clinic. He practiced full time until the age of 80 when he decided to slow down a bit. He loved spending time at his cabin in Island Park as well as fishing and golfing. In 1995 he enjoyed a life-long desire to fish in Alaska. He is survived by Virginia Kinghorn, his wife of 68 years, his 4 children, Scott (Cristeen) of Kennewick, Washington, Mary Brook (Reed) Brimhall, of Meridian, Idaho, Clark (Dena) of Rigby, and Laura Kinghorn, of Idaho Falls, sister, Mary Lou (Delos) Nelson of Pipestone, MN, 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Althea Phippen, and brothers, Clyde Kinghorn and Dale Kinghorn. We will miss you Dad and will always take with us the strong work ethic, honesty, and kindness to others that you instilled in us. Funeral services will be held at 2.00 p.m., Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery with Military Rites by Jefferson Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
