Two halves of a heart were reunited together in Heaven as Flora Olivia Dabney joined her soulmate, Hilton Ward Dabney, on February 16 th , 2022, after ten months of being separated.
He was first in her life always, and they did everything together. They loved to dance, and they danced every night before they went to bed. They danced their last dance three days before Dad passed. Mom and Dad met at Yosemite Lake, California where Daddy was a lifeguard and was stationed at Castle Airforce Base. They were married for 60 years and raised their family in San Bruno, California; Livermore, California; and Atwater, California.
Mom was born June 1, 1943, in Merced, California, the daughter of Daniel Clay McIntire and Laura Mae Echols McIntire. She grew up with her brother Daniel David McIntire in Planada, California with all of her cousins.
Mom and Dad were married on May 13, 1961, in Merced, California. Mom later joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and in 1964 were sealed for time and eternity at the Los Angeles Temple.
They raised four beautiful children, Greg (Kristi) Dabney, Bryan (Angela) Dabney, Lisa (Cary) Williams, and Daniel (Staci) Dabney. Our mother created a wonderful loving life for her family. As kids, we grew up waterskiing on the lake with friends and family. When we moved to Atwater, we would go sit around the lake or swimming pool in the back yard, to visit with friends and families enjoying the sounds of guitars, banjos, harmonica and beautiful voices singing around the campfire. For many years, mom made beautiful wedding cakes and wedding flowers, including many for her grandchildren. Mom’s home was always one where you felt love and comfort in abundance.
Mom and Dad raised us in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Mom had many opportunities to serve in the church, including teaching seminary, serving as Relief Society President, in the ward Young Women’s multiple times and in multiple capacities including the stake Young Women’s Presidency. Mom and Dad served in the Young Single Adult Ward as Advisors, and they were service missionaries at the prison and at the addiction recovery program. One of Mom and Dad’s favorites was serving at the Hmong Branch in California. Mom spent over twenty years going with the young women to girl’s camp, from being a leader, a cook, and an adviser, to just to being grandma and grandpa at camp as support and love for everyone. In Idaho, Mom and Dad spent many years working within Family History, learning more about the history of our families and helping others learn about theirs.
As our family grew, Mom’s love grew with each child, grandchild, and great-grandchild. She would be involved in her grandchildren’s field trips, baseball games, football games, track meets, swim meets, and ballet performances. She would watch them ride bulls, graduate from high school and college, and fish at the lake. She visited all her grandchildren no matter where they were in their lives. No activity was too small for her to be a part of. She immersed herself in the daily lives of her children and grandchildren. She always knew what they were doing and how they were doing. She loved all and all loved her!!!!
She is survived by her children; daughter; Lisa (Cary) Williams of St. Anthony, Idaho, and sons; Greg
(Christi) Dabney of Berthoud, Colorado, Bryan (Angela) Dabney of Cumming, Georgia, and Daniel (Staci) Dabney of Merced, California. Her brother, Dan (Carla) McIntire of Reno, Nevada is the last of the siblings. She was blessed and loved dearly by 21 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilton Ward Dabney; her parents, Daniel Clay McIntire, and Laura Mae Echols McIntire; her sister, Patsy Jean McIntire; her sister-in-law, Margret Mary McIntire; and her great-granddaughter, Cortney Carter.
Mom will be laid to rest in Plainsburg, California with our dad, Hilton Ward Dabney. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
