Florence Irene Allen, 94, of Terreton, died Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at her home, and was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.
She was born April 10, 1917, in Raymond, Nebraska to Frank Alonso Shafer and Bertha Louisa Burkey. She was raised and attended schools in Raymond and Emerald, Nebraska, graduated from Teacher’s College High School in Lincoln Nebraska. She moved with her parents to Mud Lake in 1936, and on October 15, 1937, she married Cecil Calkins Allen in Shelley, Idaho. She and her husband farmed in Terreton and Mud Lake, she worked at the INEL for 10 years, and was a co-owner of Allen’s Greenhouse in Terreton.
Florence was a member of the Methodist Church, and was one of the founders of the West Jefferson Senior Citizens Center where she served as Secretary for 15 years. She enjoyed crocheting, Knitting, and Rock Polishing.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Ann (Bob) Engel, Patricia Gwen (Lynn) Jackman, both of Pocatello, son, Robert M. Allen, of Terreton, 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby with Bishop Steven Allen, conducting. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
