Frank Walter Haderlie

February 4, 1920 — September 1, 2008

Frank Walter Haderlie, 88, of Rexburg and formerly of Ucon, joined his sweetheart on September 1, 2008, at the home of his son in Rexburg under the care of Rexburg Home Health and Hospice. He was born Feb. 4, 1920, in Iona, Idaho to Henry Walter Haderlie and Ruth Jones Ward Haderlie. He married his sweetheart, Lois Constance Ripplinger, in the Salt Lake Temple on May 24, 1945. They had four children, a daughter who passed away shortly after birth, and three sons. Lois died on Feb. 14, 1997. Frank farmed in Iona for a number of years, then bought his first 80 acres in Ucon in 1952. Eventually he bought another 80 acres across the road, where he resided until he moved to Rexburg in July, 2007. He helped others farm, hauled milk, worked in the Lincoln Sugar Factory for 28 years, and in various potato warehouses. He was water master for the Harrison canal for 13 years. Frank and Lois led girls on hikes for girls camp for 30 years. He was an avid hiker and mountain climber, climbing Grand Teton twice, South and Middle Teton, Mt. Owen, Mt. Moran, and Mt. Borah twice. Frank was known for his integrity and for giving pens away. Many knew him affectionately as “The Pen Man.” He was an active member of the LDS Church and held many callings, including as a clerk in several bishoprics, a service mission at the Ucon Granary for 2 ½ years, and he was a dedicated home teacher. He was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow and a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for the many years of his dedicated service to the Boy Scouts. He is survived by his three sons, RaMon (Cathy) Haderlie of Kent, WA; Brooks (Laurie) Haderlie of Rexburg, ID; and Burdette (Petra) Haderlie of Shoreline, WA; and by 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Verl, and three sisters, Thelma Keller, Ruby McGavin, and Betty Shaw. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois; a daughter, Brenda Ann; his parents; a brother, Vaughn; and a sister, Grace. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 6, at 1:00 p.m. in the Crest Haven Chapel in Rexburg ( ½ mile south of the Rexburg Temple), with Bishop Nathan Williams presiding. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, September 5, at the Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. before the services in Rexburg. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery. As a family we appreciate the love and support of all of his friends, neighbors and siblings, and Rexburg Hospice who cared for him so tenderly. Thank you for all you have done.
