Fred Wesley “Wes” Olsen, age 76, passed away on February 8, 2026. He was born on August 31, 1949, in Rigby, Idaho, where he was raised and where his roots ran deep.
Wes spent his life working with his hands. He liked to say he was a jack of all trades and a master of none, but those who knew him knew better. He could fix, build, or figure out just about anything and was never afraid of hard work or getting his hands dirty.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. His service reflected the strong sense of duty, loyalty, and love of country that stayed with him throughout his life.
Horses and the cowboy way of life were at the heart of who Wes was. He loved cowboy mounted shooting, guns, raising cattle and horses, building and restoring wagons, and taking his family on adventures. He also enjoyed giving his family and friends a hard time, something he did with a grin and a good sense of humor. Wes was stubborn, generous, and fiercely devoted to the people he loved. When someone in the family needed help, he was there without question, ready to work.
Family meant everything to Wes. He loved them deeply and showed it through his actions, his time, and his willingness to always lend a hand.
Wes is survived by his children, Wade Olsen (Robyn) of Houston, Texas; April Olsen of Rigby, Idaho; and Shawna Zajanc (Jordan) of Ogden, Utah; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, LaRae Grover (Keith) of Rigby, Idaho; Bryan Aeschbacher (Teresa) of Rigby, Idaho; Dianna Purser (Steve) of Rigby, Idaho; Lynn Aeschbacher (Marcy) of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Craig Aeschbacher (Tina) of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Olsen, his mother, Reva Mason, and his father, Leon Aeschbacher.
Funeral Services will be Saturday February 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held at the Ririe Idaho Stake Center on Friday, February 20, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., and again on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery.
