Galon Wilson

Galon Wilson, age 94,  lifelong resident of Menan, Idaho, passed away Friday, September 14, 2018 at his home, with his family by his side.

Galon was born April 22, 1924 in Menan, to James Leroy Wilson and Maud Lee Wilson.  He was raised and attended schools in Menan, graduating from Rigby High School.  In 1944, he enlisted in the US Army.  He served as a Combat Infantryman in Okinawa during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He then served as a Military Police Officer in Japan until 1947.  On December 7, 1946, he married Dorothy Mae Smith in Thomas, Idaho; their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Latter-day Saint Temple April 26, 1950.  Galon and Dorothy were blessed with 4 children, Deborah, Mary Lyn, Susan and James Lee.  Galon enjoyed farming with his family and farmed in the Menan area throughout his life.

Galon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities.  He loved his family dearly and cherished the time he spent with them.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan (Rolando) Torres, of Menan, son, James Lee (Linda) Wilson, of Menan, sister, Rose Marie French, of Idaho Falls, brother, Fred (Betty) Wilson, of Perry, Utah,

grandchildren; Cory Lee (Kelly) Brown, of Wisconsin, Ashley (Tyson) Smith, of Rigby, Sarah (Michael) Bell, of Rigby, Mary (Tim) Gasser, of Menan, Eric (Katie) Torres, of Idaho Falls, Jeff Torres, of Idaho Falls, Michelle Torres, of Idaho Falls,  great-grandchildren; Desnee Rollins, of Rigby, Oliva Gasser of Menan, Kasen Rollins of Rigby, Markessa Gasser of Menan, Ally Bell, of Rigby, Tristen Smith of Rigby, Taylee Gasser, of Menan, Ember Smith, of Rigby, Jackson Torres, of Idaho Falls, Amara Smith, of Rigby, Isabella Brown, Bianca Brown, both of Boise.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Dorothy Mae, daughters; Deborah Brown and Mary Lyn Wilson, a grandson; Kristopher, Robin Brown, and 3 brothers; Ivan, Bob and Wesley.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September, 18, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at the Menan 1 ^st Ward Latter-day Saint Chapel, (3547 E. Menan-Lorenzo Hwy, Menan 83434) with Bishop Greg Nelson, conducting. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, (101 W. Main Street, Rigby) and prior to services at the church Tuesday, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.  Interment will follow at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, with Military Rites by Snake River VFW Post #1004 and the Idaho Honor Guard.  Services are under the care of Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.eckersellfuneralhome.com
