Garrick Fillmore

October 29, 1904 — November 28, 2008

Garrick Fillmore, 104, of Rexburg, Idaho, passed away November 28, 2008 of natural causes. Garrick was born October 29, 1904 to Edgar Thomas Fillmore and Mable Garrick Fillmore. He entered this world on the family farm in Clark Ward, Rigby, Idaho as the second born of six children. Preceding him in death are his parents and his brothers: Glenn, Blaine, Stanley and Kenneth, and he is survived by his sister, Zada Arentz from Boulder, Colorado. His early years were spent on the farm, and he developed a great love for the land, the animals and uplifting music. He loved to sing in quartets, choruses, and with his brothers, sister, and mother. On June 11, 1925 he married Sarah Lettie Tolley in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, and they are the parents of eight children: Beth Baker (Elmer-deceased), Wayne Fillmore, (Fern), Ray Fillmore, (Carla), Arlo Fillmore-deceased, (Carma), Joe Fillmore, (Georgia) Celia Kay Ellis, (Ed), Ron Fillmore, Max Fillmore, (Sharla). He is the proud Grandpa of 48, Great Grandpa of 176, and Great-Great Grandpa of 190, with many more waiting in line. In 1948 Garrick and Sarah moved to Stevensville, Montana and bought a dairy farm. His love of land, animals and music continued, it was here where his love for The Gospel of Jesus Christ and his eternal family blossomed. His church service included calling of Branch President, Bishop, High Counselor, Missionary, Young Men Leader, and Father. In addition to the dairy farm he was employed by M & S Ready Mix in Missoula, Montana. In 1969 Garrick and Sarah were called on a Mission to the Central British Columbia Mission, which they loved and served for two years. In 1975 his loving friend and wife of more than fifty years left this existence. Shortly thereafter he moved to Rigby and lived with his daughter and son-in-law (Beth and Elmer Baker). He served as an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls Temple for nearly 10 years and spent a lot of time visiting his children and grand children as well as plenty of time fishing. These outing were special times for him and many of his grandchildren. In 1985 Garrick married a widowed missionary friend, “Grandma Gaye Woodward”. He moved to homeland, California where they resided until her passing in December 2003. His years in Homeland with Gaye were years of warmth, happiness, and lots of family visitors to sunny California. After Gaye’s passing on in 2003, Garrick moved to Rexburg, Idaho. He lived in Rexburg with Larry and Julie Shuldberg for nearly five years. Julie and Larry provided a loving, caring family environment for him during these last years of his life. They never knew how many family visitors might be there for supper or needing a bed to sleep in while visiting Dad/Grandpa. Julie was his constant care giver over these years. Her love, service, and attention to him extended his time on this earth and allowed him to spend precious time with his family and friends that visited. She has been an Angel on earth for him. These past few months she has been assisted by many loving hospice care givers. OUR THANKS ARE GIVEN TO GOD FOR ALL OF THEM!!! Garrick passed on quietly and peacefully in the presence of his daughter Beth and in the arms of Angel Julie, November 28, 2008. Dad, Grandpa, we all love you and will miss you but we know you are happy in the arms of others who love you as we do. ….Until We Meet Again….. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Burton 1st Ward LDS Chapel, 3958 West 2000 South, Rexburg, with Bishop Robert Hodgen conducting.
