Gary Kent Anglesey, 47, passed away in his Herriman, Utah home on June 30th, 2023. He was loved and endeared by many. Gary was born on May 22nd, 1976, in Ridgecrest, California, to Ricky Kent Anglesey and Janet Scott Anglesey. He was a whopping 10 lbs. at birth! Not surprisingly, he always seemed hungry. If you know Gary, you know he likes to have fun. He started his various antics at an early age. At three-years-old, he climbed on top of the refrigerator to retrieve his toys. The toys had been strategically placed there because he was in a bit of trouble. That didn’t stop Gary! He seemed to get away with a lot as he was the most adorable child…blond hair, that as it grew, developed into ringlets. Janet loved the curls, but Ricky insisted they come off! After Gary’s superhero daddy passed away, Janet married Ned Jack Leavitt, and they stayed in Rigby to raise the family.

He attended elementary school in Rigby, Idaho, though school was not necessarily his forte. Janet noted if he could have dropped out of kindergarten, he would have made that happen! He enjoyed playing t-ball and soccer as a young child as well and loved being outside to play and work. On one occasion, after he was told he couldn’t ride his bike in the street with the training wheels on, he convinced a teen working on a job with Ned, to take the wheels off. Gary hopped on his bike and rode off down the street with Janet shouting, “You can’t ride in the street!” Gary replied, “You said I couldn’t ride in the street with my training wheels. They are off!”

During his Rigby High School years, football became his love. He was proud of his big number 72–Daddy Ricky’s former football number. Friday night football games were always a highlight. He practiced hard and was 100% committed to each game. He also participated as a member of the Rising Generation Dance team. He made many friends and even toured with his sister Sally. Gary always seemed to run out of money on these trips and came to Sally begging to save him, as he ate what seemed to be seven meals a day as a growing 16-year-old boy! Sunday dinners at Grandma and Grandpa Scott’s home was a favorite tradition along with Fridays at Grandma and Grandpa Anglesey’s, eating all sorts of treats and playing pool and ping pong in the basement with his high school buddies and sisters of course!

Though school may not have always been his favorite activity, he made a lot of friends. He particularly enjoyed skipping school to go skiing and he could talk his little sister Bonnie into calling in his absences. Unfortunately, the office staff knew Janet well as she worked at the school, so this ploy didn’t ever really work. Another one of his many talents was his ability to irritate his sisters! After Michele made cookies for an event and gave strict instructions to Gary to not take even one bite out of any of these cookies, he made a new batch, put them away, and then proceeded to take one bite out of every cookie on the tray. Gary always knew how to make everyone laugh.

Though always looking for ways to give life to the party, Gary loved deeply and looked for ways to help those around him. Gary served as a member of seminary council his senior year and continually served and worked to uplift others. He was kind, generous, and thoughtful even as a 17-year-old high school student.

Gary attended Ricks College and met and married Amidey Hersh, his previous wife, on June 2nd, 1995, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Christian, Gary & Amidey’s oldest child, was born one year later. Gary was so excited to become a father and welcomed five more beautiful children–Kennedy, Scottlynn, Boston, Quynn, and Brigg. He found his passion with the responsibility of taking care of his family. Gary continued his schooling at Utah Valley State College. He always wanted to learn to fly and was inspired by his Great Uncle Kenny’s work with NASA. Through much dedication and sacrifice, he earned his pilot’s license. His last flight was on September 10th, 2001, one day before 9/11, to take Janet home after visiting the family in Provo.

Gary continued on his path to find a career that would support his family but didn’t pass up an opportunity to show his love. For example, while he was working for a construction company in Malad for several days, he showed up at Laura’s apartment in Logan to deliver cake mix and candles for her birthday. He really became the sweetest little, big brother.

Gary began his career with Savage in 2010, a company that truly cares more about its people than its business, which was what kept him there for the past 13 years. His hard work and dedication paid off as he was awarded several promotions and greater responsibility, which caused him to move his family to various locations including Spanish Fork and Vernal, Utah, Sidney, Montana, Townsend, Delaware, and Herriman, Utah. His latest title was Director of Operations. He was an incredible leader and others held him in high regard.

Gary was a strong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in various capacities including in a bishopric twice and as a bishop of their ward in Delaware. Gary recently married Melanie Shuman on May 5th, 2023, in the temple located in Nauvoo, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Melanie, his mom, Janet, his sisters Laura Lee Hull (Marvin) of Tremonton, Utah, Sally A. Brown (Max) of Eagle, Idaho, Michele Stevens (Kevin) of Hampshire, Tennessee, and Bonnie Farnsworth (Daniel) of Layton, Utah, and his beautiful children Christian, Quynn, and Brigg Anglesey of Lehi, Utah, Kennedy Anglesey Oaks (Yaeger) of Dover, Delaware, Scottlynn Anglesey of Provo, Utah, and Elder Boston Anglesey, who is serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Naga, Philippines mission. His children are a testament to the kind of father Gary has been during this life. Gary was preceded in death by his loving father, Ricky Kent Anglesey and his grandparents Dolores Allen, Lyle & Ruth Anglesey, Kenneth & Edna Scott, and Jack & Gayle Leavitt.

Gary loved the beach, Star Wars, football–especially BYU football games–airplanes and flying, fishing, spending time with his six children, boogie boarding, and creating incredible memories. His infectious laugh was his signature characteristic. He loves his children with his whole soul! We will be celebrating his life on Friday, July 7th at 2:00 p.m. at the Rigby East Stake Center. A public viewing will be held at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
