Gary V. Ashbocker, 79, of Lewisville, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2012 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born in Archer, Idaho to Albert and Louise Ashbocker on March 31, 1933. He enjoyed the time he spent working the family farm with his 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He attended school in Archer and Madison where he enjoyed playing basketball, football and baseball. He attended Ricks College where he played basketball and football. He was drafted into the US Army in April of 1953 where he served honorably in Tacoma Washington. Gary married his sweetheart, Janet Mason in Ririe, Idaho on September 9, 1953. They lived in Idaho Falls, Ririe, Ucon, Dubois and for the last 50 years in Lewisville, Idaho. They added 5 children to the relationship; Kevin, Sheri, Curt, Marie and Peggy. Early in their marriage he learned how to stucco and plaster and worked with his uncle, Kenny Davis. Later he worked for Rulon Jones on his ranch on Camas Creek near Dubois. For 32 years he was an insulator with the DOE. He took early retirement in 1995 following heart surgery. In December, 2003 Gary and Janet were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in the 50th year of their marriage. Gary’s passion in life was fishing. He also enjoyed hunting, bowling, playing pool and gardening. He especially loved spending time with his family, teaching his children and grandchildren how to hunt and fish. He is survived by his wife, Janet Ashbocker, of Lewisville, one son; Kevin, (Roxie) Ashbocker, also of Lewisville, 3 daughters, Sheri (Kelly) Rand, of Lubbock, Texas, Marie (Kent) Rolfe of Rigby, and Peggy (Don) Larson, of San Antonio, Texas; 2 brothers, Dennis (Renee) Ashbocker, Delbert “Butch” (DaNita) Ashbocker, both of Rigby, 2 sisters; Betty Chase of Ririe and Bonnie (Verl) McMurtrey, of Clark, 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son; Curt, and a brother; Darrell. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Lewisville 1st Ward LDS Chapel, with Bishop Rosenberg, conducting. The family will receive friends at the Lewisville 1st Ward church, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday evening and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services, also at the church. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
