Gary LaMar Martinsen, 78 of Rexburg, died Monday, July 06, 2015 at his home.
Gary was born February 10, 1937 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Frank Henry Maritnsen and Geneva Alverda Smith Martinsen. His mother passed away when he was 3 years old and his father remarried Viola Lewis Brooker. He was raised and attended schools in the Grant area and attended Rigby High School. On February 3, 1954 he married Sharon Crystal in Garfield, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple October 29, 2002.
Gary worked for Utah Power and Light for 35 years, retiring in 1992; after retirement he enjoyed spending summers in Idaho and winters in Quartzsite, Arizona. Gary was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Lions Club and the Jay Cee’s. He was also a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed bowling on bowling leagues.
He is survived by his children, Craig L. (Janice) Martinsen of Las Vegas, Nevada, Rodney J. (Lisa) Martinsen, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Cindy (Jay T) Hill, of Salem, Idaho, Susan (Denton) Allen, of St. Anthony, Idaho, Peggy Oram of Cody, Wyoming, brother, Robert Dean (Myra) Martinsen, of North Salt Lake, Utah, Veldon Gene (Carolee) Martinsen, of Blackfoot, sisters, Marjean (Thad) Simpson of Ogden, Utah, Sandra (Ray) Wadsworth, of Rocksprings, Wyoming, 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Reed Frank Martinsen, Dale Martinsen, sister, Beverly Jean Martinsen, son, Neil Ray Martinsen and son-in-law Trent Oram.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2015 at Henry’s Fork LDS Stake Center, 1508 West 3000 North, Rexburg, with Bishop Jay T. Hill, conducting. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St. Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at Henry’s Fork Stake Center. Burial will be in the Grant Central Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
