Gary Lynn Mitchell, age 71, of Roberts, passed away at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Saturday, December 30, 2017. Gary was born January 31, 1946 in Roosevelt, Utah a son of Benjamin Elias Mitchell and Reta Noreen Black Mitchell. He married Kathleen Newman in the Logan Utah LDS Temple March 15, 1968. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various callings throughout his life. He worked as a short order cook for Crossroads Café in Tremonton, Utah but most of his life was spent in education. He was a teacher at Georgetown Elementary then was head teacher in Georgetown, Idaho. He was former principal of A.J. Winters Elementary in Montpelier, Idaho, then principal of Paris Elementary in Paris, Idaho. He then moved to the Menan Elementary in Menan, Idaho, and then Roberts Elementary in Roberts, Idaho where he retired. He loved working on Family History. He is survived by his wife Kathleen Mitchell of Roberts, two daughters, Tamra Lynn (Joel) Merritt of Smithfield, Utah and Debra Leigh (Robert) Hearn of Logan, Utah, three sons, Brett Jay (Shauna) Mitchell of Kaysville, Utah, Shawn Gary (Julie) Mitchell of Idaho Falls, and Jeremy Robert (Sally) Mitchell of Rigby, four sisters, Sue (Alan) Perry of Logan, Utah, Sandra (Howard) Andreason of Custer, Washington, Lorelei (Gregg) Marvel of Chicago, Illinois, Marilyn (Lee) Russell of Ivans, Utah, one brother, Robert (Jan) Thayne of Deweyville, Utah, 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father Benjamin Elias Mitchell, mother Reta Noreen Thayne, step father Ferron Monroe Thayne and a brother Gary Michael Mitchell. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Roberts LDS Church, 663 North 2858 East, Roberts, Idaho 83444. The family will visit with friends Wednesday January 3rd, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby, Idaho 83442, and on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Roberts LDS Church.
