Gayland R. White passed away February 10, 2022 in Portland Oregon.
Gayland was Born May 1st 1938 in Idaho Falls Idaho to Theodore Howard White and Elva Mary Gardner White. He was the middle of nine children. He had 4 sisters Lois, Margret, Delores and Loraine and 4 brothers, Henry, Cliff, Fred and Howard. He attended Idaho Falls High School, graduating with the class of 1957. Gayland continued his education at Idaho State University, earning a BS Vocational Education Degree in 1983. He also served in the US Army.
Gayland spent his adult life in Lewisville and Rigby Idaho; he married Shirley Winchester in Lewisville, Idaho, they later divorced.
Gayland worked various jobs in construction, and at the INEL for 18 years as a Machinist.
In 1983, he moved to Longview, WA where he and Phyllis Hanke White were married. He served as Faculty at Lower Columbia Community College in Longview for 20 years in the Machining Technology Program.
Gayland was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a member of the Eagles in Longview, as well as the American Legion.
Garland’s biggest Hobby was horses. He broke colts, team roped, helped on cattle drives and willing helped any neighbor that needed a hand working cows. He enjoyed working on the farm and supporting his children in sports or any extracurricular event. He loved the outdoors; camping, hunting and fishing. He filled a long-time passion owning racehorses and raced horses in Sunland Park NM, Los Alameda CA and all over the Northwest and Intermountain West; he also had success in BC Canada winning a futurity there. Gayland attended every sporting event possible that his grandchildren competed in.
He is survived by his wife Phyliss Hanke White of Longview, WA; children, Gregg White (Angela) of Fowler, CO, Allen White of Goose Lake, CA, Wendy Acosta of Idaho Falls, ID, Ted (Teresa) Hanke of Yelm, WA, Tim (Kay) Hanke of Toutle, WA, Todd (Shelly) Hanke of Kelso, WA; 9 Grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents; daughter Gayla White; 1 brother; 1 sister; and 2 grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held June 4 th 2022 12:00 noon at the Lewisville ID cemetery, 400 N Lewisville Idaho.
