Gene Roy Boyle, 61, of Rigby, passed away Sunday June 13, 2004, due to injuries incurred from a horse accident.
Gene was born July 6, 1942, in Driggs, Idaho to Pearl Ada Drake and Blaine Patten Boyle. He was raised in Victor and attended Teton High School where he participated in wrestling and the dance band. Gene married Tamara Nielson in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on August 10, 1962. They later divorced. He married Vicki Nelson August 7, 1984 in Elko, Nevada.
Gene obtained a degree in Pharmacy at Idaho State University and achieved the rank of captain serving in the Army in San Antonio, Texas and Madigan Army Hospital at Fort Lewis in Washington. Following his military service, Gene returned to Rigby and bought into Idaho Drug with Ken Regan and has faithfully served the community for over 30 years. He is known to patrons and friends as a kind and generous man with a heart of gold.
A renowned outdoorsman, he spent as much time as possible hunting, fishing, and riding horses. Spending much of his free time on the river, he was said to have perfected the art of fishing. Gene was a member of the Jefferson County Mounted Sherriff’s Posse and served on the Park and Rodeo committee for many years. He also belonged to the National Chariot Racing Association. In true cowboy style, Gene died with his boots on.
Gene Boyle will always be remembered as a loving husband and father, and an excellent grandpa. He is survived by his wife Vicki, and children Brenda Boyle of Boise, Tracy (Richard) Wallace of American Falls, Sherrie (Mark) Petty of Logan, Utah, Danna (Darcy) Quinton of Rigby, Cajsa (Travis) Allen of Gilbert Arizona, Andy (Mary) Boyle of Riverton, Wyoming, Lisa (Mark) Cook of Rigby, Brook (David) Cedarstrom of Rigby. Gene is also survived by four brothers; Lee (Lola) Boyle of Rexburg, Nile (Moana) Boyle of Rexburg, Don (Madge) Boyle of Idaho Falls, and Barry (Kay) Boyle of Rigby and 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ina June Turner.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. in the Rigby LDS Stake Center. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Eckersell Funeral Home and Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Rigby Stake Center. Burial will follow in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
