George Emil Niederer, age 84, of Terreton, died in the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, Tuesday, June 27, 2006.
George was born January 15, 1922 at Archer, Idaho a son of Arthur Emil Niederer and Mary Ann Briggs Niederer. He attended schools in Archer and Rexburg playing basketball for and graduating from Madison High School. He served with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater During World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Verl Skidmore Post. He married Dorothy Lee Davis December 14, 1949 in Archer, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. She preceded him in death. He then married Maurine Peterson February 23, 1962 at Terreton, Idaho. He farmed in the Terreton and Mud Lake Area since 1952. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, horses and coaching basketball teams.
He is survived by his wife Maurine Niederer of Terreton, 5 daughters: Marolyn McCormick of Santa Barbara, California, Lynne (Larry) Bain of Layton, Utah, Merriloy (Dean) Paynter of Taylorsville, Utah, Lori Ann (Mike) Todd of Cedar City, Utah, Betty Niederer of Las Vegas, Nevada; 6 sons: Gailyn (Lynda) Peterson of Shoshone, Idaho, Glen (Joan) Peterson of Boise, Idaho, Larry (Jayne) Niederer of Hamer, Idaho, Bill (Penny) Niederer of Anchorage, Alaska, Bert (Rebecca) Niederer of Kennewick, Washington, Bob (Beckie) Niederer of Lyman, Wyoming, 56 grandchildren 78 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his 1st wife his parents, 4 sisters, 3 brothers, 1 granddaughter and 2 great grandsons.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 1, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Terreton L.D.S. Stake Center in Terreton with Bishop Jay Simmons officiating. The family will receive friends at the Stake Center in Terreton Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
